Elections in  Student Parliament

Here is information about all the posts and positions you can run for in the Student Parliament meetings throughout the year, in chronological order.

Student Parliament 1 
February 13

Committee for the semester's best teacher

-Four members

In the committee for the semester's best teacher, it should  sit four students, and the position is one year. (Accession immediately.) Gender balance in the committee is desirable, but not necessary.  

 

The committee meets as needed and is responsible for receiving nominations, attending the nominees' courses and finally choosing a winner. They are responsible for advertising that students can nominate teachers. A member of  The working committee assists the committee in its work.

ELSA Student Representative

- One Student representative

 

NMBU are observers in the European University Alliance Euroleague for Life Sciences (ELLS). ELLS has a student organisation, ELSA, where there will be two representatives from NMBU. One will be from AU, and the other will be chosen by the Student Parliament. There will be at least three physical meetings a year for the ELSA representatives, where travel to some of the other universities in the alliance must be expected. In the spring there'll be a Spring Meeting, and in the autumn there will be both the Scientific student Conference and the Fall Meeting.

As an ELSA representative, you have to count on monthly online meetings, have to keep up-to-date on the platform ELSA uses, and join further meetings if necessary. You want to be selected for a task within ELSA. By joining, you get the opportunity to get to know students from all over Europe, and see the European university culture. This position is a social and exciting position, but it also requires a part of those who apply.

 

You must be comfortable with both writing and speaking English.

 

You may have to speak English for both smaller and slightly larger gatherings. The office is elected for 1 year at a time, but it is strongly recommended that you can stand for re-election and sit for 2 years.

Control Committee

- Two ordinary members

The Control Committee is an advisory body that is obliged to report to the Student Parliament in the event of a breach of the articles of association, guidelines and rules of procedure. If there is reason to believe that  In the event of a breach of the articles of association or guidelines, the Control Committee may investigate the case both on request and on its own initiative. The control committee attends the student council meetings and also participates in the planning meeting and student council dinner in advance.

 

The Control Committee consists of three members who are elected twice a year; a leader at Student Parliament 6 and the other two members at Student Parliament 3. The position on the Control Committee has a term of office of 1 year. The committee has a duty to attend the Student Parliament, and at least two from the committee must attend. At least one member of the committee must be part of the counting corps.

As a member of the control committee, you may not hold the following positions / be a member of:
 
• Working Committee (AU)
• Student Parliament (representatives and chairmen)
 
• The University Board 
• The Nomination Committee 
• Leader in SiÅs

Instructions for the control committee

Student Association (SiÅs)

- Two permanent members (two-year term) and two deputies (one-year term)

The student association in Ås (SiÅs) has the task of taking care of the students' interests at Campus Ås. Among other things, they have agreed to decide that Eika sports center should be built, and now work is being done on new homes. The SiÅs board is the organization's highest authority and is responsible for the overall business, both strategic and financial. The students have a majority on the board, and they hold the positions of leader and deputy leader. The other board members are divided into one from the employees in SiÅ s, one from NMBU and one external representative. The board constitutes itself.

The two permanent representatives sit for two years, while the two deputy representatives sit for one. The position will take office on 1 July 2022.

External representative of the SiÅs board (Elected in odd-numbered years)

-One representative and one deputy

Election of an external representative to SiÅs' board. The representative and deputy sit for 2 years. The position will take office from 01 July 2022.  

The composition of the SiÅs board is as follows: 
- 4 student representatives with 2 items, elected by the Student Parliament 
- 1 external representative with deputy, elected by the Student Parliament 
- 1 representative from the employees in SiÅs 
- 1 representative appointed by NMBU 


The external representative shall contribute expertise to the board.

The Learning Environment Committee

-Three permanent and four deputy 

The learning environment committee shall contribute to a good study and learning environment at the university, and to the physical and mental learning and working environment being fully justifiable based on an overall assessment.  with regard to the students' health, safety and welfare, cf. section 4-3 of the Universities and University Colleges Act.  The learning environment includes all factors that affect students' well-being and that are within  NMBU's area of responsibility, except for the academic study offer. It also includes  student welfare and student social conditions at the institution. 

The Learning Environment Committee (LMU) shall contribute to the university board being able to fulfill its overall responsibility. LMU has delegated authority from the university board to make decisions in  matters that concern the learning environment and that are not of an overall strategic nature. The students are represented by half of the committee members, four out of eight members.  Three of the student representatives have been elected by the Student Parliament, and the last representative is from the Student Parliament's Working Committee. 

The learning environment committee has at least two meetings during the semester, including one  other recommends opposite  the university board how the board should dispose of 3.6 million which is earmarked for major LMU measures. LMU also adopts the distribution of smaller learning environment measures, works with action plans, and follows up on reports such as the SHoT survey.

University Research Committee (NMBU-FU)

-One fixed and two deputy

Elect a permanent representative and two deputy representatives to the Research Committee. The position has a duration of one year, taking effect on 1 July 2022.  

 

The Research Committee is NMBU's research policy body, and shall provide advice and strategic input to the University Board and the Rector in matters concerning research and research dissemination. The committee also deals with matters delegated from the University Board. The research committee has approx. eight meetings evenly distributed throughout the year.

University Study Committee (NMBU-SU)

-Two  fixed and three deputy

The position lasts until ST3 2022, with immediate effect.

The study committee is NMBU's educational policy body, and will take the initiative, give advice and input  to the University Board and the Rector in strategic matters concerning education, including admission,  studies and exams. The committee also deals with matters delegated from the University Board. The position is honored.

Moderator  

-One fixed and one deputy

Student thing has two chairmen. The chairmen of Studentting 3 and Studentting 6 are elected. The position lasts for one year. The main task of the chairmen is simply to ensure that the Student Parliament recovers  through the planned agenda in an orderly manner and within a reasonable time. The chairmen should have  experience of leading meetings and preferably having been to a number of larger meetings or many student events.  

 

Usually the chairmen have a premise with the chair and deputy chair of the Working Committee where one stays  put into the cases so that one can make a plan for the use of time. One relates to a large extent to  regular meeting practice, and it is therefore beneficial to be aware of this. The position provides a lot of experience  with structured meeting management, as well as good insight into the Student Democracy's work here at NMBU.

The Appeals Board

- Two permanent and two representatives (personal items)

We need two student representatives and deputies for the Complaints Board. This is an honored position where you get paid for two hours of preparation in addition to the entire meeting. A meeting lasts a whole working day.

 

The Appeals Board deals with, among other things, complaints about formal errors in examinations and cancellations  exam or test. The Complaints Board also handles cases where it is suspected that students have cheated on exams and assignments. They also deal with complaints about teaching and  learning environment.

 

The position may be suitable for students with an interest in law, but this is not one  must. Accession 1 July 2022, and you sit for one year. The number of meetings a year is usually 6-8 a year.

The Student Board

- One leader and two members

The Student Board is the Student Democracy's highest body between each Student Parliament. They're responsible for the daily operation of the Student Democracy and shall follow up decisions adopted by the Student Parliament. The working committee is the case preparer for the Student Parliament. The Student Board consists of 3 members, one leader and two AU members. The 3 members constitute themselves internally, and sit in their positions full time. The Student Board is a collegial body, which means that all members are equal members of the board. The Student Board also has its own organizational secretary.

 

The leader is responsible for the strategic and represents the NMBU students towards the top management at the university and externally. The other members divide the tasks among themselves. They want to work with the organization in the organization and work with educational policy issues. They also work closely with shop stewards in the organization to ensure good training and information flow internally in student democracy. All members of the Student Board are elected by electronic ballot (Student Election) and join on 1 July 2022. The position is remunerated.

Female representative to the University Board

- One representative and one deputy

The University Board at NMBU is the highest decision-making body at NMBU and consists of an external board chair and board members, both internal from NMBU and external. The University Board works mainly with strategy, finance, goal management, reporting and organizational development at an overall level. The University Board has 7-8 meetings per year. In addition to this, it is desirable that one attends summits and seminars under the auspices of the Dormitory Forum.

 

The board members also have a duty to keep minutes Student Parliament and should be represented during student council meetings. 
Among the students, two permanent board members and two deputies must be elected. According to regulations, both sexes must be represented equally, and it has been chosen to choose women in the spring and men in the autumn. Students who wish to apply to the University Board should have gained board experience (department boards, faculty boards or equivalent) or committee work at a higher level (UFU / USU). The representative is elected by electronic ballot (Student election) and joins on 1 July 2022. The position is remunerated.

- One representative and one deputy per faculty

The faculty board is the faculties' highest decision-making body, and consists of academic staff, external board members and two student representatives. They work with cases of a strategic nature and have approx. four meetings a year. Like the University Board, there is a gender quota, and women are also elected here in the spring and men in the autumn.

 

The representatives in all faculty boards are elected by electronic ballot (Student election), take office on 1 July 2021, and sit for one year. The position is honored.

Research ethics committee

-Two representatives and two deputies

The research ethics committee shall provide advice and information on ethical issues related to
research, teaching and administration, and shall be a driving force in promoting ethical awareness among all employees at NMBU.
 
The Research Ethics Committee may be assigned tasks such as approving research projects and 3 shall contribute to ensuring that research ethics is systematically incorporated into researcher and  the master's program at NMBU. 
The committee can process cases on the initiative of students and staff. The position is honored.

Committee for the allocation of welfare funds

- Two representatives

The Committee for the Allocation of Welfare Funds processes all applications for welfare funds from  teams / associations and comes with a recommendation to the Student Parliament. The committee has one meeting per  semester; one in the autumn to distribute the remaining welfare funds (8%), and one longer in the spring  to distribute ordinary welfare funds (92%).

The committee consists of a total of seven people: Two AU members, Finance Officer at Samfunnet, a student representative from the SiÅs board, one person who  previously sat on the committee and two representatives who are elected to the Student Parliament. The position takes immediate effect and lasts one year.

Buddy General

-A buddy general

The sponsor general has the main responsibility for organizing the sponsor week in the spring and autumn, and will act as a link between sponsor managers and NMBU. As a Sponsor General, you get a good insight into life on Campus. One should be able to stand in front of large crowds, work continuously and independently throughout the year. It is a great advantage to have participated in sponsorship weeks before, as an active student, sponsor or sponsor manager. The sponsor general creates well-being, an inclusive environment at NMBU, and is a key person for the flow of information aimed at new students. The sponsor general leads the sponsor board, where sponsor managers, NMBU, the Working Committee and the Society are represented. The position has a duration of one year with immediate appointment.

NSO delegates to NSO's national meeting

Here you have the opportunity to get involved in the national student movement and take part in important work that is done to promote the interests of about 230,000 students nationally.
The National Assembly is NSO's highest body. This is where the biggest and most important decisions are made
  the organization. They deal with the articles of association, action plan, accounts, budget, reports and briefings, election of working committees, central board and new committee members, etc. The national meeting is arranged once a year and consists of representatives from all member teams in NSO. The national meeting is a large meeting with up to 350 participants.
It is expected of you as a delegate that you attend meetings at Ås in connection with the national meeting where the agenda is discussed. The LM delegates get travel and accommodation for the national meeting covered.

Chair of the Control Committee

- One leader

The Control Committee consists of three members who are elected twice a year; a leader at Student Parliament 6 and the other two members at Student Parliament 3. The position on the Control Committee has a term of office of 1 year. The committee has a duty to attend the Student Parliament, and at least two from the committee must attend. At least one member of the committee must be part of the counting corps. The control committee shall be represented by at least one (1) member at the student council dinners. 


An overlap meeting (s) shall be held between the outgoing and incoming leader before the next student assembly after the new leader has been elected (ie before the constituent student assembly). The meeting will discuss the practice in the committee, as well as an orientation on current issues. 

As a member of the control committee, you may not hold the following positions / be a member of: 
• Working Committee (AU)
• Student Parliament (representatives and chairmen)
 
• The University Board 
• The Nomination Committee 
• Leader in SiÅs

Nomination Committee

Four members

The position has a duration of one year with accession immediately after the meeting.  

The Nomination Committee has the main responsibility for finding candidates for all positions for election to the Student Parliament and other student elections at University level, marketing the elections and preparing case documents for election matters. The Nomination Committee has the opportunity to present its recommendation, and should do so if deemed appropriate. Members of the election committee are not allowed to stand for election during the election committee's term of office, with the exception of re-election to the election committee. The members of the election committee should attend the Student Parliament's meetings and events. 

As a member of the Nomination Committee, you get an important role in student democracy! We work actively to reach out to all students at NMBU and work actively throughout the year to promote the various positions. One can expect a close collaboration with the Working Committee and the student councils at the university. As an election committee, you have to reckon with a lot of work via social media, email and the design of campaigns.
